Clark's Grebe (Aechmorphorus occidentalis)

Photographed in Marin, California by Jim Rosso. The two species are very similar. One of the easier ways of separating the two is that the black of the cap on the Western Grebe goes slightly below the eye, while on the Clark's Grebe it goes above the eye. Sometimes this is difficult to see in the field.
