Ruddy Turnstone
(Arenaria interpres)
Photographed in Florida by Jim Rosso
Ruddy Turnstone (winter plumage) is feeding on the front left. To the right is a Western Sandpiper (winter plumage) and in the background are two Short-billed Dowitchers. The dirt at the base of the Dowitcher's beak shows how deep they use their beaks to feed.
